Nigeria parties dispute court ruling and election violence
Dr. Kunle Adegbite, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Orire Federal Constituency, condemned the Federal High Court in Lokoja’s decision that set aside a prior judgment recognizing the party. He warned the ruling threatens Nigeria’s multi‑party democracy, stating “The Nigeria Democratic Congress is a law‑abiding political party” and pledged to challenge the judgment in appellate courts.
In Osun State, APC chieftain Olatunbosun Oyintiloye distanced the All Progressives Congress from a recent wave of pre‑election violence linked to the upcoming governorship race. He blamed “desperate politicians” for the unrest, affirmed that “The APC is a party of peace,” and urged calm, law‑abiding conduct while calling for investigations into the incidents.
