Nigeria pays D’Tigress players $100,000 each following Afrobasket win

The Nigerian Federal Government has completed the cash component of the presidential reward package for D’Tigress, the national women’s basketball team. Following their record fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s Afrobasket title in 2025, each player has received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while team officials were paid the equivalent of $50,000 each.

President Bola Tinubu confirmed the fulfillment of these promises, noting that the payments were processed through the National Sports Commission (NSC) in accordance with legal and administrative requirements. This cash disbursement completes a broader reward package that also includes three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and national honours, such as the Order of the Niger (OON), which the team members had previously received in February 2026.

President Tinubu also provided updates regarding other national athletes, stating that the government is finalizing outstanding cash rewards for the Super Falcons following their recent success. He emphasized that the administration aims to ensure that athletes who bring honor to the nation are properly recognized and supported.
