Dangote Refinery launches historic IPO on Nigerian Exchange
Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has launched a historic Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX). The offering involves 4.1 billion shares priced at N525 each, aiming to raise approximately N2.15 trillion (about US$1.6 billion) at an implied valuation of nearly US$47.6 billion. This marks the first time a refinery has listed on the NGX.
Aliko Dangote, president of the Dangote Conglomerate, stated the offer is designed to allow ordinary citizens to participate in the company’s success and build generational wealth. Edwin Devakumar, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries, assured investors of significant value appreciation, citing the refinery’s strong operational performance and its role in reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined products.
The refinery currently operates at approximately 700,000 barrels per day, with plans to expand capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2029 through a $14.3 billion program. Beyond immediate profits, the IPO is viewed as a test of Africa’s ability to package large-scale infrastructure into investable assets to drive regional energy security and industrial transformation.
