Nigeria pledges to resolve Zaria railway compensation disputes

The Nigerian Federal Ministry of Transportation has pledged to intervene in outstanding compensation disputes involving residents in Zaria, Kaduna State, whose properties were impacted by railway construction. Funso Adebiyi, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, announced the commitment following a visit to the palace of the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmad Bamali.

Adebiyi stated that the ministry would review relevant records and meet with affected residents to work toward an acceptable resolution. These compensation challenges have been identified as a primary factor delaying the extension of the railway line from Jadji Station toward the Kano–Abuja rail corridor.

Additionally, the ministry is considering a request to name the proposed railway extension after the grandfather of the Emir of Zazzau, honoring his historical contributions to the establishment of railway transportation in the Zaria region.
