Nigeria Police and NBA agree to strengthen professional collaboration
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, have agreed to enhance collaboration between the police and the legal profession. During a meeting at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on September 8, 2026, both parties committed to improving communication and mutual respect to reduce recurring confrontations between lawyers and police officers.
Badejo-Okusanya advocated for specialized training for lawyers and better engagement between police lawyers and the wider Bar to ensure more effective justice delivery.
Additionally, the NBA is promoting a UNICEF-supported initiative aimed at improving access to justice for children. The proposal suggests deploying a police lawyer to every police station to provide legal support and protection for children interacting with the juvenile justice system.
