Nigeria police arrest suspect after attack on Peter Obi’s convoy
The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, identified as Victor Edet Yellow Duke, in connection with an alleged attack on the convoy of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, near the Watt Market Roundabout in Calabar. The attack took place while Mr. Obi was traveling from the palace of the Obong of Calabar to the Metropolitan Hotel for a scheduled presidential town hall meeting, part of his engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to police reports, a group of suspected hoodlums armed with machetes and sticks attacked the convoy, resulting in damage to several vehicle windshields. Video footage circulating on social media appeared to show individuals using sharp objects to smash the windows of the vehicles. Police operatives responded to the scene using tear gas to disperse the attackers.
