Nigeria Police Force pays N2.3bn to families of deceased officers

The Nigeria Police Force has disbursed N2.317 billion in insurance and welfare benefits to the families and next-of-kin of 2,971 deceased officers. Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu announced the payments in Abuja, noting that the funds cover multiple outstanding insurance policy years, including 2017/2018 through 2024/2025.

The disbursement includes outstanding balances recovered from insurance companies following previous partial settlements. The initiative aims to clear a significant backlog of claims that had been delayed due to administrative issues and bureaucratic hurdles.

During the presentation of cheques, IGP Disu acknowledged the ongoing loss of personnel during operations in states such as Yobe, Zamfara, and Kebbi. He stated that while the money cannot replace lost loved ones, the payments represent the institution’s obligation and appreciation for the sacrifices made by the officers.
