Nigeria Police IGP Olatunji Disu says state police will not affect careers and urges tougher crime fight in Kano

Inspector‑General Olatunji Disu reassured officers that the proposed creation of state police will not jeopardise their careers, stating the Nigeria Police will become a Federal Police Service while retaining its specialised units. During a visit to Jigawa State he emphasised that the reform aims to strengthen policing and improve security delivery.

Later in Kano, Disu urged the state command to intensify proactive operations against criminal gangs, youth violence, cyber‑enabled fraud and transnational groups. He highlighted six reform pillars – intelligence‑led and technology‑driven policing, accountability, community engagement, inter‑agency collaboration, operational specialisation and personnel welfare – and promoted the new Violent Crime Response Unit as a key tool. Police officials reported hundreds of arrests and prosecutions since the start of the year, crediting intelligence‑led tactics and community‑based strategies such as Operation Kukan Kura for the successes.
