Nigeria Police IGP orders academic audits and proposes creative economy security desk

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu has issued a directive for all Nigeria Police Force commands, departments, and training institutions to submit a list of personnel holding advanced academic qualifications. The request specifically targets inspectors and rank-and-file officers who possess PhDs, Master’s degrees, or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) certificates.

In a separate initiative, IGP Disu proposed the creation of an Orange Economy Security and Intellectual Property Coordination Desk within the police force. Speaking at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), he emphasized the need to protect the creative economy—including film, music, and digital content—from organized piracy, counterfeiting, and cyber-enabled fraud. He advocated for increased collaboration with the Nigerian Copyright Commission to safeguard intellectual property and support national development through the creative sector.
