Nigeria police impound over 90 vehicles for unregistered number plates in Plateau and Borno states

In Plateau State, the police command arraigned 14 motorists and impounded 14 vehicles for using covered, defaced or unauthorized number plates. The operation follows a directive from Inspector General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu and aims to prevent criminal use of improperly registered vehicles.

In Borno State, the police command has seized 78 vehicles lacking proper plates since the crackdown began on 10 June 2026. Officers say the enforcement is part of a nationwide effort to sanitise vehicle registration, improve public safety and deny criminals the use of unregistered cars. Both state commands stressed the measures target illegal practices, not law‑abiding citizens, and urged motorists to regularise their registrations.
