Nigeria Police Impound Unregistered Vehicles in Borno and Adamawa States

The police commands in Nigeria's Borno and Adamawa states have launched enforcement operations to impound vehicles lacking proper registration plates. In Borno, 78 vehicles were seized after a crackdown that began on June 10, 2026, following a directive from Inspector‑General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu. Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid said the action aims to improve intelligence gathering and prevent criminals from exploiting unregistered vehicles.

In Adamawa, a special task force led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Abubakar Haruna was created under Commissioner Kabir Umar Hassan to enforce a similar directive from Inspector‑General Kayode Egbetokun. The command warned that unregistered and altered plates pose security risks, allowing criminals to evade detection. Vehicle owners are urged to regularise registrations, with impounded cars subject to legal procedures.

Both operations are presented as proactive crime‑prevention measures intended to enhance public safety without disrupting law‑abiding citizens.
