Nigeria police seize vehicles and bust fraud syndicates in Lagos and Kano

The Lagos State Police Command announced the dismantling of an organised vehicle‑fraud syndicate that obtained 29 exotic cars and buses worth more than N1 billion using false pretences and post‑dated cheques. Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department recovered seven vehicles, including Toyota Highlanders, Hiace buses, a RAV4 and a Ford Edge, and arrested key members while other suspects remain at large.

In Kano State, the police continued a separate crackdown called “Operation Clean Plate”. Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori reported that 123 vehicles with covered, defaced or missing number plates were intercepted across the state’s 44 local government areas. All drivers were charged, and a 51‑year‑old suspect was found with a Beretta pistol, cannabis, a knife, electric wires, 120 lithium batteries and a suspected stolen vehicle.

Elsewhere in Nigeria, police in Niger State seized 82 vehicles for violations of registration‑plate rules and illegal tinted glass, part of an effort to prevent criminals from using unregistered or concealed vehicles for illegal activities.
