Nigeria Police Service Commission promotes 93 senior officers

On 1 July 2026 the Police Service Commission (PSC) in Abuja approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers. The exercise elevated 13 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors General of Police, promoted 17 Deputy Commissioners to Commissioners of Police and advanced 63 other senior officers to higher ranks, including 28 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners, 33 Chief Superintendents to Assistant Commissioners and 162 Assistant Superintendents to the next substantive grade.

Among those named were Itam Nnaghe Obono, Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans‑Irab​or, Monday Agbonika, Iyamah Daniel Adebor and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin as new Assistant Inspectors General, and Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala and Danbaba Mohammed Labbo as new Commissioners of Police. PSC Chairman Hashimu Salihu Argungu urged the newly promoted officers to serve with integrity, transparency and professionalism.
