Nigeria Police train 30 officers in drone technology

The Nigeria Police Force has completed the first phase of a specialized training program to equip officers with drone technology to combat terrorism and banditry. Thirty officers, all alumni of the Nigeria Police Academy in Kano, graduated from the Basic Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Course One on October 10.

The training was organized by Nethawk Aviation Solutions, an indigenous defense technology company based in Kaduna. According to Nethawk founder and CEO, retired Flight Lieutenant Adedoyin Akerele, this graduation represents the first step in a larger initiative to train a total of 100 police personnel in unmanned aircraft systems.

The program aims to enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering, and the monitoring of difficult terrain to improve responses to criminal groups. The curriculum included aviation ground school as well as basic and advanced drone operations to foster local technical expertise for public safety and authorized security operations.
