Nigeria Police warn political actors against electoral incitement
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a warning to political stakeholders against making inciting remarks that could lead to electoral violence ahead of the 2027 general elections. CSP Anietie Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, stated that incitement is a criminal offense under existing national laws and that the police will investigate and prosecute violators.
During a joint briefing in Abuja with military and intelligence agencies, Iniedu noted that several individuals, including a Senator from Osun State, the Kuje Area Council Chairman, and a Commissioner in Borno State, are currently under investigation for making inciting comments. The NPF emphasized its commitment to maintaining law and order regardless of the interests involved.
