Nigeria prepares for 2026 cultural and gastronomy festivals

Nigeria is preparing for major cultural and gastronomic festivals in 2026 aimed at driving economic growth, job creation, and regional integration through tourism and heritage.

The ECOWAS Food and Cultural Festival (EFCF) is scheduled to take place from October 27 to 31, 2026, in Benin City, Edo State. Following its inaugural edition in Uyo, the festival aims to connect African heritage with food security, investment, and youth development. The event focuses on transforming cultural assets—such as traditional recipes, music, and crafts—into commercial opportunities and tourism attractions.

Simultaneously, Benue State plans to host its Annual Gastronomy and Cultural Tourism Festival in 2026. This initiative seeks to leverage the state’s culinary heritage, agriculture, and arts to create a marketplace for local products. Organizers expect the festival to benefit farmers, food processors, artisans, and entrepreneurs by increasing the visibility of Benue’s cultural diversity and encouraging both domestic and international tourism.
