Nigeria's Super Eagles secured a 2-1 comeback victory against Madagascar in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Madagascar took an early lead in the 16th minute through a header by Ehsan Kari, putting the visitors ahead.
Nigeria responded through two players making their senior international debuts. George Ilenikhena equalized in first-half stoppage time, and Moses Usor scored the winning goal in the second half. The victory provides a crucial three points for Nigeria in Group L, though they currently sit second in the group behind Guinea-Bissau on goal difference.
