Nigeria Presidency denies allegations of election postponement plot
The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed allegations that the Federal Government is planning to postpone the January 16 presidential election. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, characterized the claims as ‘fake news,’ stating that the government is unaware of any plans to shift the electoral timetable.
The allegations were raised by the African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC), which claimed to have information regarding a plot to summon Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, to the Presidential Villa to alter the election date.
The ADC-PCC urged President Bola Tinubu to abandon any such attempts and called on the INEC Chairman to make any attempts at influence public. The council emphasized that the election date belongs to the citizens and argued that Nigerians must be allowed to vote to judge the current administration following significant economic hardships.
