President Tinubu returns to Nigeria after working vacation in Europe

President Bola Tinubu has concluded a working vacation in Europe and is returning to Nigeria, with plans to arrive in Lagos to honor the memory of MKO Abiola by attending a documentary premiere on Independence Day. During his time in France, the President met with business leaders and witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for a $7 billion deep-sea port project in Ogun Waterside.

Tinubu's prolonged absence from Nigeria and his decision not to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York have sparked political debate. The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) raised constitutional concerns regarding Section 145, questioning whether the President properly notified the National Assembly of his absence. While the Presidency maintains that digital technology allows the President to discharge his duties remotely, opposition figures like Peter Obi and Omoyele Sowore have questioned his whereabouts, with Sowore alleging the President is receiving medical treatment in France.

Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria at the UNGA, where he advocated for global governance reforms and African representation on the Security Council. Meanwhile, in legal news, the Federal High Court has scheduled October 2, 2026, for Omoyele Sowore to continue his defense in a cyber-bullying case brought by the Department of State Services.
