Nigeria's Tinubu extends tenures for Immigration and Correctional chiefs
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved 18-month tenure extensions for the heads of the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigerian Correctional Service. Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Immigration Service, will remain in her position until June 30, 2028, while Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Correctional Service, will serve until May 26, 2028.
The decision followed a recommendation from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address a succession gap and allow the relevant governing boards sufficient time to appoint successors. The presidency noted that the extensions aim to provide continuity and allow the officials to consolidate reforms achieved under their leadership.
In separate developments, the administration is addressing long-standing financial and institutional matters. The Federal Government has released over ₦4 billion in severance benefits to 600 former Nigeria Airways workers, part of an ongoing effort to settle outstanding obligations. Additionally, President Tinubu has signed legislation to transition Yaba College of Technology into the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Yaba, and has scrapped recruitment waiver requirements for federal universities to increase institutional autonomy.
