Nigeria President Tinubu orders ICPC probe into fictitious PFIPC agency

President Bola Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). The council, claimed to be headed by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, was allocated about N1.3 billion (≈US$950,000) in the 2026 budget despite no legal foundation.

Lawmakers in the House of Representatives have called the budgetary entry into question and invited the budget minister and the agency’s director‑general to explain the allocation. Opposition figures, including former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress, have demanded an independent commission of inquiry and have urged the suspension of Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila while the matter is investigated. Police raids on Adeyemi’s father’s residence in Ogbomoso have added to the controversy. The ICPC has been given a 30‑day deadline to submit its findings.

The scandal raises concerns about forged documents, misuse of public funds, and the integrity of Nigeria’s budgeting process ahead of the upcoming presidential election.
