Nigeria President Tinubu urges governors to halt costly flyover projects

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu told Nigerian state governors to stop building unnecessary and expensive flyovers in areas with low vehicular traffic, urging them to redirect those funds toward rural road networks and citizen welfare. He made the remarks while hosting a delegation of Oyo traditional rulers led by the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and asked the rulers to convey the message directly to the governors.

The comments come as state governments receive larger allocations from the federal account under Tinubu’s administration, and as state‑level elections draw near. Observers note that improved governance, infrastructure, education, health and economic opportunities at the state level are viewed as essential for Nigeria’s overall development.
