The Nigerian Federal Government has launched an investigation into massive electricity discrepancies along the 132kV Ikorodu-Sagamu transmission corridor. Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe reported that approximately 100 megawatts (MW) of electricity are unaccounted for, resulting in an estimated annual revenue loss of N120 billion.

The anomalies were detected through technology-based monitoring systems deployed by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) since 2024. These systems identified unusual loading patterns and inconsistencies in energy consumption and electricity flows.

The probe aims to determine whether these losses are technical, such as aged infrastructure, or commercial, including energy theft, meter tampering, and the manipulation of consumption data. Minister Tegbe has warned that the government will take firm action if the investigation confirms illegal practices. While assuring industrial operators of sustained power supply, the Minister emphasized that reliable delivery must be matched by accurate metering and responsible payment to ensure the financial stability of the electricity value chain.
