Nigeria pushes for digital diplomacy and federal power rebalance

Experts at a seminar in Abuja urged Nigeria and other African nations to adopt anticipatory, cyber‑focused foreign policies. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sola Enikanolaiye, Minister of Communication and Digital Technology Bosun Tijani and British Deputy High Commissioner Vicky Seymour highlighted the need for digital diplomacy to counter threats from artificial intelligence, cybercrime and emerging technologies.

Separately, Professor Eghosa Osaghae, director‑general of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, called for a rebalancing of powers between Nigeria’s federal government and its states during the inaugural Annual Federalism Lecture at the University of Benin. He warned that an overly centralised system risks collapse and advocated continual adjustments to the distribution of authority.
