Nigeria reaffirms citizen-centered foreign policy via 4Ds pillars

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, has reaffirmed that the nation’s foreign policy is centered on the welfare and interests of Nigerian citizens both domestically and in the diaspora. This approach is a key component of President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’.

Enikanolaiye stated that the country’s diplomatic direction is guided by four pillars, referred to as the ‘4Ds’: Demography, Development, Diaspora, and Democracy. The Demography pillar specifically aims to ensure that diplomatic engagements result in tangible benefits for average citizens.

The Ministry is also working to increase awareness of international and regional opportunities for Nigerians, particularly regarding trade, investment, and small to medium-scale enterprises. The Minister encouraged entrepreneurs to utilize platforms provided by organizations such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
