Nigeria reaffirms support for US USDA Food for Progress Programme

The Nigerian government has reaffirmed its support for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food for Progress Programme. The initiative is viewed as a strategic intervention aimed at strengthening the nation’s fisheries and aquaculture value chain.

During a meeting in Abuja with a delegation from Partners of the Americas, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Fatima Sugra Mahmood, pledged the ministry’s readiness to provide policy guidance and institutional support. The program is intended to bolster food security, generate employment, and reduce poverty by unlocking the potential of Nigeria’s blue economy and increasing domestic fish production.
