Nigeria reflects on late President Buhari as former aides recount service and blame weak leadership
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha marked the first anniversary of President Muhammadu Buhari’s death by recalling his five‑year, seven‑month tenure under the late leader. Mustapha said his relationship with Buhari went beyond official duties, describing their final dinner in the United Kingdom as a cherished memory and stating, “I feel I’ve lost a leader, I’ve lost a father, I’ve lost a mentor, and a guiding force.”
At a public lecture organized by the Foursquare Gospel Church, former special adviser on media Femi Adesina criticised Nigeria’s current socio‑economic situation, attributing it to corruption, poor leadership, weak infrastructure and unemployment. He noted, “Nigeria has everything needed to move forward, including a large youthful population, rich natural resources… but unfortunately it has not translated to wealth,” and urged leaders to match rhetoric with action.
