Nigeria releases academic tools allowance to tertiary lecturers

The Nigerian Federal Government has released the full Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) for academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The payment covers the period from January to August 2026.

Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa announced the disbursement, noting that it fulfills the provisions of the 2025 Federal Government–Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN/ASUU) agreement. The allowance is intended to support staff in purchasing essential materials for teaching and research.

Alausa stated that while academic staff payments are being implemented, the government is also processing funds for non-academic staff, with expectations that these will be available within the coming weeks. He characterized the move as part of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving welfare and investing in educational infrastructure.
