Nigeria Reputation Day 2026 calls for credible image building
At the Nigeria Reputation Day 2026, stakeholders gathered under the theme ‘Own the Narrative: Shaping Nigeria’s Reputation Together’ to discuss rebuilding the country’s global standing. The Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG) emphasized that a credible national image must be earned through institutional performance and measurable achievements rather than propaganda or rhetoric.
John Momoh, Chairman of the Advisory Body of the NRMG, stated that Nigeria’s reputation is shaped by the everyday experiences of citizens, investors, and visitors. He noted the tension between negative narratives involving insecurity and corruption, and positive narratives involving innovation, music, and diaspora contributions. Momoh urged the government to demonstrate competence in policymaking and businesses to uphold ethical standards.
Former NIMASA Director-General Dakuku Peterside described national reputation as a strategic asset that directly impacts trade, diplomacy, and investment. He proposed the creation of a national evidence repository and a reputation dashboard to track progress and document achievements. The initiative, led by the NRMG and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), seeks to coordinate efforts across the government, private sector, and media to improve the country’s international perception.
