Nigeria road crashes kill 17, injure 9 across two incidents
A fatal collision on the Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway near Sapade Bridge in Ogun State involved a white Sinotruk truck bearing a Dangote logo and a Toyota Hiace bus carrying 18 passengers. The crash killed ten people – nine adult males and a child – and injured six others. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attributed the accident to speed violations, wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving, and warned motorists against reversing on highways.
In a separate incident on the Okene–Osara–Lokoja Highway in Kogi State, a commercial Siena bus travelling from Auchi to Abuja struck a stationary heavy‑duty truck under repair. Six bus passengers and the truck’s motor boy died, while three people were injured. The FRSC cited excessive speeding, driver fatigue and a tyre burst as causes. Both accidents prompted the FRSC to urge stricter compliance with traffic regulations to curb recurring road fatalities.
