Nigeria Scores High in AI Readiness Index While Telecom Leaders Push AI‑Driven Infrastructure
Nigeria was ranked third among African countries and 17th worldwide in the 2026 Ataraxis Global Outsourcing AI Readiness Index. The nation performed strongly in workforce AI literacy, placing sixth globally, but lagged in enterprise AI adoption, ranking 19th, creating the widest gap between workforce skills and business implementation among the 25 destinations studied.
At the West Africa Telecoms Infrastructure Summit (WATISE 4.0) in Lagos, telecom executives and policy analysts warned that rapid AI adoption will sharply increase data and connectivity demand. Speakers called for investment in ultra‑reliable, high‑capacity fibre networks, low‑latency transmission systems, and AI‑enabled network management to support services such as remote healthcare, smart cities and real‑time financial transactions.
