Nigeria Secures 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships, Unveils Mascot

The Nigeria Fencing Federation confirmed that Lagos will host the senior Commonwealth Fencing Championships from August 9‑14, 2026, at the Rugby School. It is the first time the senior Commonwealth fencing tournament will be held in Africa, following South Africa’s junior edition in 2022. President Adeyinka Samuel said the event will showcase Nigeria’s growing stature in the sport and serve as a platform for education, tourism, and international cooperation.

At a press conference the federation unveiled the official logo and two eagle‑themed mascots – Gidi (male) and Laci (female) – marking the start of preparations. Officials highlighted partnerships with UNICEF, World Abilitysport and local bodies, stressing the championship’s potential to inspire youth, promote cultural exchange and boost grassroots fencing development across the Commonwealth.
