Nigeria secures 2,512 terrorism convictions across 11 trial phases
The Nigerian Federal Government has recorded a total of 2,512 convictions in terrorism-related cases following the conclusion of the 11th phase of trials at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Maj. Gen. Adamu Laka, National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), announced the results during a press briefing.
The most recent phase, conducted between October 15 and 24, 2026, handled 1,069 cases across 10 courts. This phase alone resulted in 791 convictions, seven acquittals, 41 discharges, and several other judicial outcomes including adjourned or pending cases. This brings the cumulative total from the previous 10 phases, which accounted for 1,721 convictions, to the current figure of 2,512.
Among the notable outcomes was the conviction and death sentence of Suleiman Abu, a member of Boko Haram, for his involvement in attacks against military facilities and civilians. Maj. Gen. Laka stated that the judgments demonstrate the commitment of the justice system to holding perpetrators accountable. The NCTC also emphasized the need to dismantle terrorism financing networks through increased cooperation between investigative and financial intelligence institutions.
