Nigeria secures $8.5m annual Adidas kit deal

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has secured a multi-year kit sponsorship agreement with Adidas valued at $8.5 million annually. This deal marks the end of an 11-year partnership with Nike and is reportedly the highest-valued national team kit sponsorship in Africa.

Under the terms of the agreement, Adidas will provide $4.5 million in direct annual cash and $4 million worth of kits and equipment. Additionally, the NFF will receive a 20 per cent royalty on retail merchandise sales. This represents a massive increase over the previous Nike contract, which provided approximately $500,000 in annual cash and $1 million in equipment.

Outgoing NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau announced the deal in Abuja shortly before his resignation. He noted that the previous terms had become inadequate to meet the growing financial and logistical needs of Nigeria’s various national teams. The transition to Adidas, which previously supplied Nigeria during the 1994 FIFA World Cup, will occur after the current Nike arrangement concludes.
