Nigeria wins ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier C
Nigeria’s senior men’s cricket team, the YellowGreens, secured the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier C title following a one-run victory over Uganda in Abuja. The win concluded a perfect five-match campaign for the hosts and guaranteed their qualification for the 2027 Africa Regional Final.
In the deciding match, Nigeria posted a total of 148 runs in 19.4 overs, led by Isaac Danladi’s 47 runs. Despite a strong performance by Uganda’s Riazat Ali Shah, who scored 60, Nigeria’s bowlers managed a late recovery. Sylvester Okpe and Isaac Okpe were instrumental in restricting Uganda, who finished their chase just short of the target.
Prior to this tournament, Nigeria had lost all 13 of their previous T20I meetings against Uganda. The qualifying journey included dominant victories over The Gambia, Zambia, Mozambique, and Lesotho. Chima Akachukwu was a standout performer during the tournament, notably taking four wickets for 14 runs in a seven-wicket win against Lesotho.
