Nigeria secures Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle on new contract through 2030
National Sports Commission Director General Bukola Olopade confirmed that Nigeria has reached a new agreement with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, ending speculation about his future. The renewed contract doubles his monthly salary to $100,000—down from the $130,000 he reportedly requested—and extends his tenure until 2030. In addition to leading the senior national team, Chelle will now oversee the U‑23 Olympic Eagles, giving him broader influence over the development pathway for young players.
The paperwork has yet to be signed, but Olopade described the delay as a routine administrative step. Reports of Chelle being courted by other nations were rejected as unfounded. Veteran winger Moses Simon publicly backed the coach, saying Chelle’s rebuilding project is laying the foundation for a future World Cup qualification campaign and that the squad’s focus is on winning the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and reaching the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
