Nigeria security agencies dismantle job scam syndicate and arrest illegal miners

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismantled a transnational criminal syndicate in Cross River State, rescuing 42 individuals. The group allegedly operated a fake overseas employment scheme under the guise of a multi-level marketing business in Calabar. The victims, including Nigerian, Cameroonian, and Beninese nationals, were reportedly promised lucrative jobs in South Africa, Malaysia, and Côte d’Ivoire in exchange for large sums of money for visa processing.

In a separate operation, the Nigerian Army arrested 18 suspected illegal miners in Niger State. The suspects were apprehended by the 102 Guard Battalion during a routine operation in the Gurara Local Government Area. The Army handed the suspects and recovered items over to the NSCDC Mining Marshals for investigation. Authorities noted that the suspects appeared to be operating without valid licenses or legal authorization.
