Osun State security alert following terrorist plots against religious sites
The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a high-level alert regarding alleged terrorist plots to attack places of worship and public gathering centers in Osun State. Intelligence suggests that militant groups may attempt to expand operations from northern corridors into the South-West region to create instability and disrupt the lead-up to Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Following briefings by the DSS in Osogbo, religious leaders from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Osun State Muslim Community (OSMC) have been advised to implement heightened security protocols. Recommended measures include increased surveillance at mosques and churches, stricter access controls for visitors, and monitoring of unfamiliar vehicles near congregations.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on residents, particularly those in border communities, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or unfamiliar individuals to security agencies. The Governor has also directed security agencies to review their action plans and announced plans to convene a State Security Council meeting to strengthen the protection of lives and property.
