Nigeria security forces arrest cult members in Kwara and parade 97 suspects in Ondo
The Kwara State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) carried out a raid in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area, arresting suspected members of the outlawed Eiye Confraternity, including alleged leader Idowu Akorede. Police said the suspects resisted arrest with broken bottles but were subdued without injury and transferred to Ilorin for further investigation.
In Ondo State, the Amotekun Corps announced the parade of 97 suspects detained over the previous two weeks for offences ranging from kidnapping and armed robbery to vehicle theft and violations of the state’s anti‑open‑grazing law. The corps warned of a recent influx of people from northern Nigeria into forest settlements and said the arrests resulted from joint operations with the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and the army.
