Nigeria security forces intercept high-calibre firearms in Cross River
The Department of State Services (DSS) has intercepted a cache of high-calibre weapons along the Bekwarra–Ogoja axis in Cross River State, Nigeria. The recovered arsenal includes three general-purpose machine guns (GPMGs) and seven AK-47 rifles.
Security operatives tracked four suspected gunrunners traveling from northern Nigeria through Benue State into Cross River. Two suspects were arrested during the operation, while two others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
Representing Governor Bassey Otu, Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Odey inspected the weapons and warned that the state would not allow political ambitions to turn communities into killing fields. Authorities are investigating the origin of the weapons and the identities of those who organized or financed the shipment to determine if the arms were intended to disrupt upcoming political activities.
