Nigeria seeks German technology and investment to revive steel industry

Nigeria is seeking investment and technological partnerships with German manufacturers to revitalize its steel and metallurgical industries. During a meeting in Abuja with a delegation of German Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) led by Chux Onaa of VDMA, the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Audu, expressed readiness to move from discussions to concrete industrial deals.

The Nigerian government aims to leverage its significant mineral resources and growing market to build local value chains and reduce reliance on imported equipment. Key areas identified for cooperation include modern technology deployment, equipment manufacturing, mineral processing, steel production, engineering services, and capacity building through technology transfer.

This initiative follows previous discussions held at the 9th German-African Economic Forum in Dortmund. The Ministry of Steel Development stated that these efforts are intended to create a sustainable, technology-driven industry to support infrastructure development, manufacturing, job creation, and economic diversification.
