Nigeria seeks inclusive fisheries investment to support artisanal fishers

Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has stated that new investments in the nation’s fisheries sector must be inclusive and sustainable. Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of Turkish investors from CRD Impex, Oyetola emphasized that incoming capital and technology should complement and empower artisanal fishers rather than displacing their livelihoods.

The Minister identified several critical challenges facing the artisanal sector, including inadequate infrastructure, limited access to modern technology, processing and storage constraints, weak cold-chain systems, and market access gaps. He noted that these challenges present significant opportunities for investors to modernize the fisheries value chain and improve productivity.

Oyetola assured the Turkish delegation, led by Cem Tarhan, of the Federal Government’s commitment to maintaining an investment-friendly environment for the marine and blue economy. CRD Impex expressed interest in bringing its expertise in fisheries and aquaculture to Nigeria to explore local investment opportunities.
