Nigeria seeks private sector partnerships for labor and climate goals

The Nigerian federal government is actively seeking enhanced collaboration with the private sector to address critical national challenges in labor and climate resilience.

In the realm of employment, the Ministry of Labour and Employment is working to strengthen ties with the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA). The goal is to promote decent work, improve productivity, and protect worker welfare. Officials emphasized that sustained social dialogue between the government and employers is essential for maintaining industrial harmony and achieving sustainable economic growth.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Environment is calling for increased private-sector investment to close the country's climate adaptation gap. During a stakeholder engagement regarding the National Adaptation Plan (NAP), the government noted that state resources alone are insufficient to protect infrastructure and communities from climate change. The NAP aims to integrate climate risk management into sectors such as agriculture, water resources, and energy, requiring new financing mechanisms and technology transfers to build a low-carbon economy.
