Nigeria seeks to expand refined petroleum and fertiliser exports to Mexico
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has announced plans to strengthen economic ties with Mexico by increasing the export of refined petroleum products and urea fertiliser. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goal to expand the nation’s non-crude export earnings and transition from a raw material exporter to a productive manufacturing economy.
Omokri met with Senate President Godswill Akpabio in Abuja to discuss these trade objectives. As part of the strategy, arrangements are being made for Mexican officials to visit the Dangote Petroleum Refinery to explore bilateral cooperation opportunities. While Nigeria currently exports urea fertiliser to Mexico, the ambassador noted that existing volumes are small relative to the country's potential to provide affordable supplies to the Mexican market.
