Nigeria sees rise of new athletics talents Aderemi and Ajayi

Nigeria is seeing the emergence of significant new talent in track and field. Seventeen-year-old Iyanuoluwa Aderemi is gaining attention in the 400m discipline. Hailing from the Akoko region of Ondo State, Aderemi recently clocked 50.95 seconds at the Dynamic Athletics Meet. Her development has been supported by former athlete Adeleye Ogunmakinju, though she faces challenges balancing academic commitments with high-level training.

In the men's sprints, Kanyinsola Ajayi has completed a breakthrough season. Ajayi secured a Commonwealth Games bronze medal in Glasgow and set a Nigerian national record with a time of 9.84 seconds at the Prefontaine Classic. His performance included a victory over world champion Oblique Seville, elevating his standing in the World Athletics rankings and establishing him as a global contender in the 100m event.
