Nigeria Senate Rejects Probe into ₦1.3bn Fake Agency Allocation

Nigeria’s Senate has twice refused to authorize an independent investigation into the ₦1.3 billion budget line for the non‑existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) in the 2026 budget. The motion, re‑filed by Senator Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu of Kano South, was rejected by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who argued that the matter is already before the courts and that President Bola Tinubu has tasked the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) with a probe.

The controversy centres on Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, arrested and charged with forging appointment letters and claiming to head the phantom agency, as well as alleged bribery accusations involving Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila that the presidency has denied. The ICPC is expected to submit its findings within 30 days, while the House of Representatives has launched its own inquiry.
