Nigeria Senator Garba Musa Maidoki Defects from APC to ADC Over Primary Disputes

Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South and serves as the Deputy Senate spokesperson, announced his resignation from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and his entry into the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He cited unresolved internal tensions and disagreements stemming from the APC primaries, especially in Kebbi State, as the primary reason for his move. Maidoki said he made the decision after “wide consultations with constituents, stakeholders and supporters” and emphasized that the ADC better aligns with his district’s interests.

The defection occurs amid a broader wave of high‑profile departures from the APC in northern Nigeria following the party’s recent primary contests. Party officials, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, reportedly attempted to persuade Maidoki to stay, but his switch adds to the growing list of legislators leaving the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
