Nigeria Sends 18 Technical Aid Volunteers to The Gambia

The Federal Government of Nigeria has deployed 18 skilled professionals from the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) to The Gambia, marking the 38th anniversary of the programme that provides technical assistance to African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries. Director‑General Hon. Yusuf Yakub said the initiative has dispatched more than 10,000 experts to over 40 ACP nations since its inception and that this year’s deployments will include more than 15 batches.

Yakub credited President Bola Tinubu for expanding the programme, noting that under his administration NTAC activities have doubled or even tripled. The deployment, described as part of South‑South cooperation and the “One Africa” vision, is led by Prof. Aliyu Bashir and consists of professors, engineers and other senior specialists selected from over 10,000 applicants. Past Nigerian volunteers in The Gambia have held senior academic posts, underscoring Nigeria’s role in promoting human‑capital development across Africa.
