Nigeria settles 20-year Murtala Muhammed Airport dispute

The Nigerian Federal Government has reached a negotiated settlement with Bi-Courtney Limited and Stabilini Visinoni Limited, ending a nearly two-decade legal dispute regarding the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) concession in Lagos.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo announced that the settlement framework was approved by the Federal Executive Council. Under the agreement, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will resume collecting concession fees from MMA2, which had been halted for 20 years due to ongoing litigation. In a reciprocal arrangement, Bi-Courtney will waive all outstanding claims against the government, while the government will release specified historical claims against the concessionaire.

The resolution also clarifies the status of the General Aviation Terminal (GAT), confirming it belongs to the Federal Government and will be operated by FAAN. Additionally, the agreement aims to clear the path for the completion of previously abandoned hotel and conference centre projects near the airport.
