The Federal Government of Nigeria signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Morocco to launch a satellite‑ and artificial‑intelligence‑driven agricultural monitoring platform. The agreement, signed by Deputy Chief of Staff Ibrahim Hadejia at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Ben Guerir, involves Morocco‑based phosphate producer OCP Africa and geospatial firm Ground Truth Analytics.

The partnership will power Nigeria’s first satellite‑based national crop monitoring system, dubbed the National Agro‑Productivity System, delivering real‑time intelligence on crop yields, land use and emerging food‑security risks to federal, state and local authorities across up to 15 states. Officials highlighted the aim to build domestic capability in precision agriculture, AI and geospatial technology to improve planning, investment and policy coordination.

Marion Moon, Executive Secretary of the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit, said the system will strengthen seasonal planning, agricultural productivity monitoring and policy coordination nationwide.
